Wear Sunscreen…

When I first started this blog it was with a post called Let’s get started. I wasn’t sure where I was going with it or what I wanted to achieve but I knew that the philosophy behind it would reflect my favourite poem, Desiderata written by Max Ehrmanna. For me it sums up how I try to live my life.

About a year ago I listened to a song on the radio that I thought was a joke, some DJ having fun with words or taking the piss. When I looked it up online I was surprised to see it was genuine, a piece of prose written by Mary Schmich at The Chicago Tribune and popularised by Baz Luhrmann entitled Everybody’s Free (To wear sunscreen). I’ve listened to it many times and consider it to be on par with Desiderata in its philosophy for life. You can Google Baz Luhrmann and watch the video for yourself, it is voiced by Lee Perry, his voice is quite hypnotic!

The lyrics have inspired me to create this graphic. Read and enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Everybody's Free (To wear sunscreen)

Thanks to Boochen Sundance for the info on Mary Shmich.

  1. Yes, this is a cool piece of prose. Often incorrectly credited to Kurt Vonnegut, it’s actually by a woman named Mary Schmich (and not Baz Luhrman). The voice in the piece is Lee Perry.
That is, if you believe what you read on the internet.

  2. My favourite is…
Donโ€™t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum
I’m a born worrier! and I wear factor 30plus sunscreen winter and summer!
